This is the base sample I created. The audio is terrible and the music ended up being too loud, as a result of checking the levels with headphones on only, and not with both headphones and speakers. The voice portion was recorded with a cheapo headset mic, but the new draft is being done with a slightly better mic, so it shouldn't be as garbled.
This is where the audio sits so far, and currently the project runs at just a tiny bit over an hour long.

Here is the roughed out version of the audio.

Now, why am I doing this?
A few reasons.
First, I heard the song that I used in the background of the draft piece. I loved how mellow and somber it was, and when the high points of the song came in, it just felt so mystifying that I fel in love with the piece. Then I saw in its description its inspiration.
That leads into my second reason. I loved the story. The way the characters were portrayed and how the dialogue sounded in my head was something amazing. I've likened it to an artists struggle to create, and essentially an artist being created and introduced to the world of color. The nature of the character's awakening is pure magic in moments.
Lastly, I'm doing this project simply to try something different. I've never done a reading of a story, let alone a long reading. I keep being told that I have a good reading voice, so I figured I would give it a shot on something that created such an impact of emotions. Add to it the fact that I'm trying to create visuals to somewhat match up to the story, which is challenging in and of itself. I don't know how long this will take, but I know I'm going to enjoy working on this.
Final note on this unusually long post, yes, it is indeed mlp based. Think what you will of it all, but the show's initial creator made a good chunk of the shows I watched growing up, all of them awesome and well written, so don't go and judge something without giving it a chance. Its a lot better written than some of the other crap thats on tv right now, and its definitely not one of those mind numbing reality shows. Its much smarter than that. Lauren Faust knew what she was doing when she pitched it, and the team that works on it now knows how to keep it moving. /rant
Anyways, cheers!
